September 2003 Show Report

A nice sunny morning again and hundreds of vdubs snaked their way in to the new
bigger venue at Canford Park Arena. We were really pleased with the amount of vdubs
turning up. It always seems to grow bigger each time, with plenty of support from the local
club scene. We had more club displays than ever, with the likes of the Cabrio Beetle Club,
Hants VW Club, Spirit of Air, Cool Air, Waterside VW Club, a cool gathering of Porsches
from the Hants/ Dorset area and Dorset VAG turning out in force.

Any clubs I've forgotten to mention? If you run a club, and you want to organise a
club display for our next event, please contact us. As usual, there were plenty of fantastic looking vehicles, we'll try to add some more pics soon.

There were far too many amazing vehicles to mention them, but these have to get a mention:

* Paul W's 1943 (we think) Schwimmerwagon ...yes the one you saw at the Volksworld show

* The couple who drove down from Manchester, I think they said it was a 6 1/2 hour drive! Hope you enjoyed it!

* The green samba that drew in the crowds.

For all those Porsche fans, there were plenty of gorgeous vehicles to drool over. From some original 356's, early to late model 911's. Unfortunately, it started raining by about 3pm, so there were a couple of guys who missed the Show n Shine awards. Obviously, there are plenty of peeps out there putting a lot of effort into their pride and joys, but here's the winners:

  • BEST TYPE 2 BAY
went to Alan & Dawn Hutchings from Corfe Mullen, with their wonderfully restored orange panel van, reg 7756 VW

  • BEST TYPE 1 STOCK
went to John Moxon from Southampton, with his 1959 1200 beetle with those cool whitewalls. Reg 348 EXD

  • BEST TYPE 1 MODIFIED
went to Sophie Hockley-Moore and Ian Kent, from Guildford, with their '64 Beetle with narrowed beam. Reg CAB 392B

  • OLDEST VW of the SHOW
went to Paul W (of course!!) with his 1943 (we think) Schwimmerwagon, reg 181 UXD. Such a cool dub.

  • BEST PORSCHE
went to Dave Wood from Southsea, with his 1989 3.2 Carrera Sport. Very original looking car. Reg G653 MMR.

  • BEST TYPE 3/4 (incl. Karmann Ghia)
went to Benji from Blandford, with his '69 Type 3 fastback, reg REL 859H.

  • LOWEST VW of SHOW
went to Alex Burnett from Woking, with his '66 1300 beetle, reg LYR 678D.

  • BEST MODIFIED VW (Buggies, rails etc.)
went to Ollie Oliver, with his bright red '67 Jazz beach buggy, with 17" Porsche alloys. Reg JWV 626F.

  • Mark Hopley from Bridgwater with his 1960 23 WINDOW SAMBA DELUXE
managed to scoop FOUR trophies!! He won Best Type 2 Split, Best Paint, Best Engine and the overall Best of Show awards!

Congratulations to all the winners, you can see for yourself how cool these rides were from the pics. Big big thanks as always to Kathy and Paul who put a lot of effort into judging the show.

What we love about the vdub seen is the atmosphere, its always great when we all get together...to catch up with old mates and meet new ones. At this point we want to say a big thank you to all those who support our shows. I know there are plenty of regulars who come along, and there always seems to be plenty of new vdubs and porsches we haven't seen before. Anyone who has some pics they want to see added, just email them over to us and we'll see what we can do.

Last but not least...BIG thanks to my wife Leanne, bro Laurence, Mum, Dad, both gran's, Linda, cousin Michael, Nikki, Glen, James and everyone else who helped to make this event possible. Really looking forward to the next one on Sunday 9th October...same venue.
